The size advantages of the 0201 component make it a popular choice among design engineers but not among manufacturing engineers. From a manufacturing point of view the size of an 0201 package poses challenges to the printed circuit board (PCB) assembly process. Manufacturing defects may arise due to solder paste volume, pad design, board finish and more. The 0201 dimensions are nominally .020 in. X .010 in., literally too small to be seen with the naked eye. Therefore optical inspection with high magnification is required.
