THE stereo microscope for performance

Mantis is an award-winning ergonomic stereo microscope which offers exceptional operator comfort and superb 3D imaging. No awkward eyepieces means a stress-free viewing experience, see more and do more than is possible with conventional binocular microscopes.

See every detail, even with demanding subjects

See the finest detail in a large, high resolution, high contrast, optical stereo image.

Whether you are viewing your subject in the eyepiece-less viewer or a separate monitor, Mantis stereo microscope delivers the superior image quality you need to perform your inspection tasks accurately and quickly.

Work better for longer

Mantis’ superior microscope ergonomics allows higher levels of concentration and lowers fatigue to give you better performance. It enables relaxed, stress-free viewing and the eyepiece-less design reduces eye activity, and thus eye strain.

Manipulate your subject easily with long working distance, accurate 3D view, and quick magnification change.

THE stereo microscope for image quality

Mantis stereo microscopes deliver an unrivalled high quality 3D image, rich in detail and contrast, perfect for 3D observations and manipulation of a wide range of subjects.

Eyepiece-less design

Mantis eyepiece-less technology projects a large high quality 3D image directly to your eye, making it easier to see and more comfortable to view than a binocular stereo microscopes.

The clarity of the 3D image supports enhanced hand-eye coordination, making subject manipulation with tools more accurate, faster and more efficient.

You can even wear corrective or protective eyewear without loss in performance.

Dynamic View Optics (DVO)

Mantis’ unique Dynamic View Optics enables a stereo view, which changes as you move your head. See the sides of a subject as well as the top to gain a greater level of information and understanding.

High performance digital imaging

Use Mantis PIXO’s integrated high quality microscope camera to share your image to a screen. Capture, review, analyse and share high quality images, including annotations, in real time, to improve reporting and communication.

Maximise working effectiveness by adding digital overlays to compare live images with targets, measures or pre-set guides.

Range of optical lens

To ensure you get the highest image quality, each dedicated lens combines the finest optical quality glass and special coatings to give a high resolution, high contrast view. For the most demanding subjects there are is a range of Super Long Working Distance (SLWD) objective lenses.

THE stereo microscope for ergonomics

Mantis’ unique package of ergonomics benefits the user in four key ways, enabling comfortable, accurate working for longer. Postural benefits  combined with greater eye comfort, ease of use and the perfect stereo view means operators’ output quality and productivity are maximised.

Close up of component bore hole

Maximum eye comfort

Mantis extended pupil eyepiece-less technology increases your eye comfort. The distance from Mantis to the eye, allows access to ambient light, reducing iris activity when working. Common focus distance reduces refocusing effort while working with the system.

You can wear corrective or protective eye glasses with no loss of performance.

Greater separation from the system to your eye reduces the risk of cross contamination and eye infection, so Mantis microscopes can be shared between multiple operators more safely, reducing operator risk.

Postural comfort

Mantis’ extended pupil eyepiece-less technology increases your postural comfort by projecting the image into the eye at a comfortable viewing angle with a neutral neck position. Your head is not required to be in a tightly fixed position, so you have a more natural ability to move while working. There is no need to lean uncomfortably over constraining eyepieces.

Hand-eye coordination

The distinctive stereo view of Mantis gives you both a direct view of the subject and allows peripheral vision. This enhanced view helps you to understand the shape and form of the subject, and also the position of the tools you are using to work on the sample.

Sample manipulation using tools can be carried out with higher levels of accuracy and confidence.

Ease of Use

Mantis has few, simple to operate controls to ensure that every user quickly and effectively becomes confident with the instrument. Rotating the multi-view turret allows three different magnifications of your subject with a simple operation without changing view.

THE stereo microscope for 5 way illumination

Mantis features 5 different illumination modes, giving you maximum control over lighting your subject. This ensures you achieve the best possible shadow free illumination of your sample for the best quality inspection and manipulation.

  • 3d Illumination left with insert of Mantis microscope
  • 3D illumination right with insert of Mantis microscope
  • 3D illumination both right and left with insert of Mantis microscope

Dynamic 3D illumination

Control and enhance 3D illumination for even greater understanding of 3D subjects. Two banks of LEDs can be set for synchronised or independent control to give you the option to add shadow detail, enhancing your 3D understanding of the subject. Additionally it helps prevent unwanted reflections, which can hide subject detail.

Sub-stage, transmitted, diascopic illumination

Transparent, translucent and perforated subjects are best illuminated from below. The Mantis’ Stabila stand with built in sub-stage illuminator is an effective solution to your transmitted lighting requirements.

Incident, episcopic illumination

Sometimes it is necessary to view down a blind hole. Get light along the optical path between close packed components or to the bottom of a bore for inspection tasks with Mantis’ episcopic illuminator.

Combined White / UV illumination

Change from white to UV light at the push of a button for inspection of coatings and fluorescing agents. Speed up inspection of coated parts by viewing the coating, and then through the coating as you quickly change from one light to the other.

Frequently asked questions

Below you can find some of the most common questions.

Can Mantis IOTA lenses be interchanged?2023-06-19T08:49:39+00:00

Yes, Mantis IOTA microscope lenses have a bayonet style fit and can be easily changed by the user.

What is Mantis PIXO camera performance?2023-06-19T09:20:39+00:00

Mantis PIXO uses a 5MP back-illuminated sensor with super speed USB-C cable for data transfer. Please note: Quality of cables affects performance of the system, so use the cables supplied.

What objective lenses do I require?2023-06-19T09:21:12+00:00

The choice of microscope objective lenses will depend on the application and on user preference. In general, when viewing or inspecting objects, it is advantageous to see more of the sample (i.e. have a larger field of view) and have a large depth of focus. Depending on the size of the subject, these requirements may indicate that the lower magnification (4x and 6x) lenses will be the most useful for inspection work and the higher magnification (≥8x) lenses more useful when more detailed work is required.

What is the compatibility between parts from the Mantis classic and the new Mantis range?2023-06-19T09:21:50+00:00

The new Mantis 3rd generation family (PIXO, ERGO and IOTA) is a huge step forwards from Mantis classic (Elite Cam HD, Elite and Compact) and has been completely redesigned to deliver wide ranging benefits over Mantis classic. Most Mantis classics parts and accessories are not compatible.

Can I still get servicing and parts for Mantis Elite, Elite Cam-HD and Compact?2023-06-19T08:26:04+00:00

Yes. These models are part of the Mantis Classic range . We will continue to offer the same high level of after sales support, ensuring the availability of current accessories and spare parts for the foreseeable future.
