Materials and Metallurgical Inspection Microscope
Whether you want to inspect alloys, plastics, ceramics, or other materials, the TIM5 routine inspection microscope allows both beginners and advanced users to achieve detailed analysis of a wide range of material subjects.
Optimize your observations
TIM5 provides ultimate flexibility offering choice of brightfield or darkfield observations as reflected light, polarized light or transmitted light options to ensure you get the best view of your observation.
Choosing the right illumination technique
When inspecting PCBs brightfield is effective at showing the detail.
Switching to darkfield enables the shiny alloy to be seen in greater detail.
The neutral density microscope filters (ND Filters), used in a variety of industrial applications, come as standard to allow you to select which light wavelengths are transmitted, reduced or blocked. These filters offer a selection of transmittance values, daylight blue for a more comfortable viewing, as well as contrast filters, often used for observation of semiconductor wafers and monochrome photography.
Adjustments for illumination, transmittance, interpupillary distance and diopter are all possible with this versatile materials microscope.
Capture and document the results
Image acquisition and documentation allow you to provide full reports on your results. TIM5 pairs seamlessly with most microscope cameras and digital cameras to give provide you with additional functionality. Choose from a range of cameras and software to suit your application. Speak to our experts.
There are two system kits ready to meet different needs. Each kit includes the items detailed below. Kits do not include objectives which should be chosen according to requirements.
TIM5-EPI system kit (illumination only)
TIM5-SSI system kit (incident and sub-stage illumination)
EPI infinity plan achromat objective lens options up to 100x, for both brightfield and darkfield observation, providing up to x 1000 total magnification.

Can I view my samples under Brightfield and Darkfield?
When selecting your system you can choose objectives that are suitable for either bright field illumination only or bright and dark field illumination.
Can I view my sample with transmitted light and incident light?
There are options that allows you to view your sample with transmitted and incident light independently or simultaneously. The TIM5 is available in two different system kits: TIM5-EPI includes incident illumination only TIM5-SSI includes incident and transmitted light sources Please ensure you select the correct model for your needs on ordering.
Can I view my sample under polarized light?
Yes. A polariser and analyser are available for incident light.
Can I capture images?
Yes. The trinocular construction allows for a camera to be mounted to the camera port tube using a C-mount adapter. A range of cameras are available, please contact Vision Engineering for further information. When paired with appropriate software, functionality can range from image acquisition and basic measurement, to more advanced applications such as image processing, stitching images together and image analysis.
