Ergonomics. It’s just right.

The science of ergonomics informs every stage of every product, from the earliest concept right through to final design and manufacture. It’s a passion which sets our microscopes and measuring systems apart from the competition, delivering superior accuracy and greater efficiency and productivity. And you can see it for yourself in Mantis, Lynx EVO and DRV-Z1, and in all of our other industry-leading products.

Operator health and productivity

Most commonly available microscopes were designed with very little thought given to how human operators interact with them for extended periods. The resulting discomfort has a measurable impact on the efficiency and health of users. Eyestrain, muscle cramps and repetitive strain injuries are a very real danger, and increasingly common when microscopes are used in this way.

Ergonomic working position

Every employer has a duty of care and legal responsibility to provide employees with good working conditions and equipment which can be used safely. But even if this were not true, it makes no sense to economize on the quality of equipment if the result of that is poor efficiency, more errors and higher absenteeism. Good ergonomic design isn’t just nice to have, it makes good economic sense, too.

Freedom of head movement

When viewing subjects under an ordinary microscope, users are forced to maintain an uncomfortable and distracting position, resulting in stiffness and muscle cramps. That’s why Vision Engineering pioneered eyepiece-less microscopes – an approach which allows operators to sit back in a relaxed and natural position, able to move their heads without immediately losing the image that they are studying.

No more eyestrain

Conventional binocular microscopes send intense, narrow beams of light into the user’s eyes, forcing the pupils to constrict. This repeated constriction and subsequent dilation cause eyestrain. Because our ergonomic microscopes allow the operator to sit back up to 38mm, the ambient light can enter the eye, mitigating the effect to provide a comfortable viewing experience which facilitates longer sessions and greater productivity. It also gives a more natural view of the subject.

The freedom to wear spectacles

Conventional microscopes require the users to remove their spectacles. And even the wearing of safety glasses is problematic. Users of Vision Engineering’s ergonomic eyepiece-less microscopes can wear prescription and safety glasses without any problem.

Easy hand-eye-co-ordination

Hand-eye co-ordination is always a challenge when using tools or when manipulating subjects under an ordinary microscope. Vision Engineering’s patented eyepiece-less technology let users sit back, allowing much greater peripheral vision for the ability to use hands and tools in an intuitive manner.
